Abstract:【Objective】To investigate the efficacy of magnesium sulfate in treating elderly patients with cerebral hemorrhage complicated with hypomagnesemia and its effects on endothelin(ET) and nitric oxide(NO) levels. 【Methods】A total of 93 patients with cerebral hemorrhage complicated with hypomagnesemia admitted to our hospital were randomly divided into the observation group(n=47) and the control group(n=46). Both groups received conventional symptomatic treatments such as intracranial pressure reduction,hemostasis,and oxygen inhalation. The control group was intravenously dripped with Xingnaojing,while the observation group received magnesium sulfate treatment on top of the control group's treatment. The clinical efficacy,serum magnesium,ET,NO levels,and scores from the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale(NIHSS) and activities of daily living(ADL) were compared before and after treatment. 【Results】The total effective rate of treatment in the observation group was higher than that in the control group(P<0.05). After treatment,the serum magnesium levels in both groups increased compared to before treatment,while ET and NO levels decreased(P<0.05). The observation group had higher post-treatment serum magnesium levels and lower post-treatment ET and NO levels than the control group(P<0.05). One and two weeks post-treatment,the ADL scores of both groups showed an upward trend,and the NIHSS scores showed a downward trend(P<0.05). Moreover,the post-treatment ADL score of the observation group was higher and the post-treatment NIHSS score was lower in the observation group than those in the control group(P<0.05). 【Conclusion】Magnesium sulfate has a good therapeutic effect on elderly patients with cerebral hemorrhage complicated with hypomagnesemia. It helps to increase serum magnesium,reduce NO and ET levels,promote the recovery of neurological function,and has significant application value.
