Abstract:【Objective】To analyze the changes of procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels in urinary tract infection of elder patients and its clinical significance. 【Methods】The clinical data of 68 elderly patients with urinary tract infections admitted to our hospital from January 2017 to October 2018 were selected. They were divided into upper urinary tract infections (group A,n=32) and lower urinary tract infections (group B,n=36) according to the location of urinary tract infections. Thirty healthy volunteers with normal physical examination in our hospital during the same period were selected as control group (group C). Blood and urine white blood cell count (WBC) and serum PCT and CRP levels were measured, and the correlation between PCT and CRP levels was analyzed.【Results】The levels of WBC in blood, WBC in urine, PCT and CRP in serum of the group A and the group B were significantly higher than those of the group C, and the levels of PCT and CRP in serum of the group A were significantly higher than those of the group B, with statistical significance (P<0.05). The levels of serum PCT and CRP in the group A and B after treatment were significantly lower than those before treatment, and the levels of serum PCT and CRP in the group A were higher than those in the group B, with statistical significance (P<0.05). Pearson correlation analysis showed that serum PCT level was positively correlated with CRP (r=0.73,P=0.009<0.05). 【Conclusion】The combined detection of serum PCT and CRP levels can help to diagnose the occurrence of urinary tract infections in the elderly, and is helpful to clinical medication. It is worth popularizing and applying in clinical practice.
