Abstract:【Objective】To explore the clinical efficacy of skull repair surgery at different times in the treatment of children with traumatic skull defects.【Methods】Sixty children with traumatic skull defects admitted to our hospital from June 2017 to September 2023 were selected. All children underwent decompressive craniectomy, and skull repair surgery was performed at a selected time after surgery. They were divided into the control group (n=35) and the observation group (n=25) based on the time of postoperative skull repair surgery. The control group patients underwent skull repair surgery within 3-6 months after decompressive craniectomy, while the observation group patients completed skull repair surgery within 2 months after decompressive craniectomy. We compared the quality of life, self-care ability, neurological function, and motor function recovery of two groups of patients before and after treatment, and compared the clinical efficacy and postoperative complications of the two groups of patients.【Results】After treatment, the quality of life scores of both groups of patients were higher than before treatment, and the observation group was higher than the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). After treatment, the Barthel index and Fugl-Meyer score in both groups were higher than before treatment, and the observation group was higher than the control group; The NIHSS score was lower than before treatment, and the observation group was lower than the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). The incidence of postoperative complications in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The total effective rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).【Conclusion】Early skull surgery for children with traumatic skull defects can improve their quality of life, improve their neurological and motor functions, and have good clinical effects.
