Abstract:【Objective】 To investigate the correlation between serum uric acid level and osteoporosis in newly diagnosed elderly male type 2 diabetes patients. 【Methods】 A total of 200 elderly male patients with type 2 diabetes who were newly diagnosed in our hospital from March 2020 to July 2022 were selected. The bone mineral density (BMD) values of all patients were measured by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry. According to the BMD values of patients, they were divided into non osteoporosis group (n=144) and osteoporosis group (n=56). The age, body mass index (BMI), blood uric acid and other indicators of patients were collected, and the correlation between each indicator and BMD value was analyzed. 【Results】 Compared with the non osteoporosis group, the patients in the osteoporosis group had lower BMI, blood uric acid, limb skeletal muscle mass index (ASM), limb skeletal muscle mass index (ASMI), and BMD values of each part (P<0.05). BMI, blood uric acid, ASM, and ASMI were positively correlated with BMD of each site (P<0.05). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that low BMI and low ASMI were independent risk factors for osteoporosis in newly diagnosed elderly male patients with type 2 diabetes, and serum uric acid was a protective factor (P=0.0171).【Conclusion】 The newly diagnosed elderly male type 2 diabetes patients with normal or slightly higher levels of blood uric acid can effectively prevent osteoporosis, and blood uric acid can be used as an important indicator for screening osteoporosis patients.
