Abstract:【Objective】To explore the expression of histone deacetylase 9 (HDAC9) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma and its clinical significance. 【Methods】A total of 41 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma confirmed by pathological biopsy in Otorhinolaryngology of our hospital were selected as the observation group. In addition,24 patients with chronic nasopharyngitis were selected as the control group. The expression of HDAC9 protein was detected by immunohistochemistry; the relative expression of HDAC9 mRNA was detected by real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR). The three-year survival of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients in the HDAC9 mRNA high expression group and the HDAC9 mRNA low expression group were compared and analyzed. 【Results】Immunohistochemistry showed that the expression of HDAC9 protein in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.05); qRT-PCR showed that the relative expression of HDAC9 mRNA in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). The number of cases with high expression of HDAC9 mRNA (n=30) was much higher than that of cases with low expression (n=11) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissues (P<0.05).The expression of HDAC9 mRNA was not related to gender, age and pathological type (P>0.05),while its expression was related to lymph node metastasis and TNM stage (P<0.05). The 3-year survival rate of patients with high expression of HDAC9 mRNA was 56.67% (17/30) and the 3-year survival rate with low expression was 81.82% (9/11). The survival rate of HDAC9 mRNA high expression group was lower than that of low expression group (P>0.05). 【Conclusion】The expression of HDAC9 is low in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients, and the expression of HDAC9 mRNA is related to lymph node metastasis and TNM stage.
