Clinical Efficacy of Fangji Huangqi Decoction in Patients with Acute Ankle Sprain

Abstract：【Objective】 To investigate the clinical efficacy of Fangji Huangqi Decoction in the treatment of patients with acute ankle sprain. 【Methods】 A total of 87 patients with acute ankle sprain treated in our hospital from January 2020 to June 2023 were enrolled and divided into an observation group (n=44) and a control group (n=43) according to the order of admission. The control group received conventional Western medicine treatment, while the observation group was additionally given Fangji Huangqi Decoction on the basis of conventional Western medicine treatment. Both groups were treated for 1 week. The swelling subsidence time, ecchymosis subsidence time, pain level [Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score], adverse reactions, joint function recovery [American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society ankle-hindfoot score (AOFAS)], and total effective rate were compared between the two groups. 【Results】 After treatment, the swelling subsidence time and ecchymosis subsidence time in the observation group were significantly shorter than those in the control group (P<0.05). The VAS scores in the observation group at 3 days and 1 week of treatment were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). The AOFAS scores in the observation group at 3 days and 1 week of treatment were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). The total effective rate of the observation group was 100.00%, which was higher than 88.37% of the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). No obvious adverse reactions were observed in either group during treatment. 【Conclusion】 Fangji Huangqi Decoction can effectively relieve swelling and pain after acute ankle sprain, promote rapid recovery of joint function, and has high safety. It can be used as an adjuvant treatment for patients with acute ankle sprain.
