Abstract  【Objective】To explore the clinical efficacy of warm acupuncture combined with medical chitosan in the treatment of elderly patients with knee osteoarthritis. 【Methods】From January 2020 to June 2024, a total of 300 elderly patients with knee osteoarthritis were selected for treatment. They were randomly divided into the observation group and the control group, with 150 patients in each group. Patients in the control group received conventional treatment, namely intra-articular injection of medical chitosan, while those in the observation group received warm acupuncture in addition to conventional treatment. Clinical efficacy, knee joint range of motion (ROM), pain level [Visual Analogue Scale (VAS)], inflammatory factors [Interleukin-1β (IL-1β), Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF-α), Matrix Metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), Hyaluronic Acid (HA), Rheumatoid Factor (RF)], and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. 【Results】After treatment, the clinical efficacy and ROM in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05), while VAS scores, IL-1β, TNF-α, MMP-9, HA, RF levels and the incidence of adverse reactions were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). 【Conclusion】Warm acupuncture combined with medical chitosan can significantly improve knee joint mobility, relieve pain, reduce inflammatory factor levels, and has fewer adverse reactions. It showes high clinical value.
