Abstract 【Objective】 To evaluate the effectiveness of a remote management model based on electronic stethoscopes in preschool children with recurrent wheezing in remote areas. 【Methods】 A total of 66 preschool children with recurrent wheezing who visited People's Hospital of Gongshan County, Nujiang Prefecture of Yunnan between February 2024 and February 2025 were selected as study subjects and randomly divided into a control group and an observation group, each comprising 33 cases. The control group received routine follow-up and standard management measures, while the observation group received the same interventions plus a remote management model based on electronic stethoscopes. Over a 12-month follow-up period, we compared the number of wheezing episodes, respiratory infections, days of systemic corticosteroid use, hospitalizations, outpatient and emergency visits due to wheezing, average monthly medical costs, and average monthly total healthcare-related expenses between the two groups. Additionally, we assessed the Children's Respiratory and Asthma Control Test (TRACK) scores and the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQLTM4.0) scores. 【Results】 At the end of follow-up, the observation group showed significantly fewer wheezing episodes, respiratory infections, outpatient/emergency visits, and hospitalizations than the control group (all P<0.05). The observation group also had significantly shorter duration of systemic corticosteroid use and lower average monthly medical and total healthcare-related costs compared to the control group (all P<0.05). Furthermore, TRACK and PedsQLTM4.0 scores in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (all P<0.05). 【Conclusion】 The remote management model based on electronic stethoscopes enables continuous monitoring and standardized care for preschool children with recurrent wheezing in remote areas, effectively reducing wheezing episodes and healthcare resource utilization, improving disease control, and enhancing quality of life, thus demonstrating significant clinical value.
