Abstract  【Objective】To explore the therapeutic effect of Vitapex paste root canal filling on pulpitis of primary teeth in children and its impact on the levels of interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and interleukin-18 (IL-18). 【Methods】A total of 92 children with primary pulpitis treated at the Third Hospital of Xi'an City from March 2020 to March 2022 were selected and randomly divided into an observation group (n=46, 52 affected teeth) and a control group (n=46, 56 affected teeth) using a random number table method. The observation group received root canal filling with Vitapex paste, while the control group received treatment with zinc oxide clove oil paste. We compared the swelling disappearance time, pain relief time, degree of tooth pain, success rate of root canal treatment, and IL-1β and IL-18 levels between two groups of pediatric patients. 【Results】The swelling disappearance time and pain relief time in the observation group were shorter than those in the control group (P<0.05). Before treatment, there was no statistically significant difference in IL-1β and IL-18 levels between the two groups (P>0.05); After treatment, the levels of IL-1β and IL-18 in both groups decreased (P<0.05), and the observation group was lower than the control group (P<0.05). 2 days after surgery, the visual analog scale (VAS) scores of both groups were significantly lower than before surgery (P<0.05), and the observation group was lower than the control group (P<0.05); After 3 days of surgery, the VAS scores of both groups significantly decreased compared to preoperative and postoperative 2 days, and the observation group was lower than the control group (P<0.05). Follow up for 1 year showed that in the control group, 10 apical inflammations occurred, with a treatment success rate of 82.14%(46/56); Two apical inflammations were observed in the observation group, with a treatment success rate of 96.15%(50/52). The success rate of root canal treatment in the observation group was higher than that in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (χ2=5.359,P=0.021). 【Conclusion】Vitapex paste root canal filling has a significant therapeutic effect on children with primary pulpitis and can reduce IL-1β and IL-18 levels , alleviate postoperative tooth pain in pediatric patients and improve the success rate of root canal treatment.
