| The Significance of Serum Neurotrophic and Inflammatory Factor Levels in Patients with Acute Spinal Cord Injury of Different Severity |

Abstract 【Objective】To explore the significance of serum neurotrophic and inflammatory factor levels in patients with acute spinal cord injuries of varying severity. 【Methods】A total of 120 patients with acute spinal cord injury were divided into the complete injury group (Group A, 52 cases) and the incomplete injury group (Group B, 68 cases), based on the severity of neurological function injury. Additionally, 65 healthy individuals undergoing physical examination in the same period were selected as the control group. Serum levels of B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2), Bcl-2 associated X protein (Bax), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), neurotrophin-3 (NT-3), neurotrophin-4 (NT-4), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) were compared among the three groups. The correlation between these serum indicators and the degree of injury in patients was analyzed. 【Results】The serum Bcl-2 level in both group A and B were significantly higher than that in the control group, while Bax level in both groups was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). Group A had higher Bcl-2 level and lower Bax level than group B (P<0.05). The levels of serum BDNF, NT-3, NT-4, IL-6, and TNF-α in patients of group A and group B were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05); And group A had higher levels of serum BDNF, NT-3, NT-4, IL-6, and TNF-α than group B (P<0.05). Pearson correlation analysis showed that serum levels of Bcl-2, BDNF, NT-3, NT-4, IL-6, and TNF-α in patients were positively correlated with the severity of spinal cord injury (P<0.05), while Bax level was negatively correlated (P<0.05). 【Conclusion】The levels of serum inflammatory factors in patients with acute spinal cord injury are elevated with the severity of the injury, which makes them potential indicators for assessing the degree of injury.
