Effect of DEX on Serum S100B and NSE in Elderly Patients Undergoing Radical Gastrectomy and Inflammatory Index |

Abstract 【Objective】 To explore the effect of the application of dexmedetomidine (Dex) on the serum S100B protein (S100B), neuron-specific enolase (NSE) and inflammatory indexes during radical resection of gastric cancer in the elderly under general anesthesia. 【Methods】 A total of 96 patients with gastric cancer undergoing laparoscopic radical gastrectomy under the management of the same group of medical staff in our hospital were randomly divided into DEX group and control group, 48 cases in each group. Both groups were given intravenous anesthesia under tracheal intubation,In the Dex group, 0.5 ml/kg DEX was pumped at the same time, and the same amount of normal saline was pumped after 15 minutes. The MMSE scores, serum S100B 24 hours preoperative and postoperative , NSE, tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α), interleukin-1β(IL-1β), C-reactive protein (CRP) and the incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups before operation, 1 and 3 days after operation. 【Results】 There was no significant difference in preoperative serum S100B, NSE, TNF-α, IL-1 βand CRP levels between the two groups (P>0.05). The difference of MMSE score between the two groups before and 3 days after operation was statistically significant (P<0.05), while the MMSE score of the control group was significantly lower on 1 day after operation. At 24 hours after operation, the serum levels of S100B, NSE, TNF-α, IL-1βand CRP in the Dex group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions in dex group was significantly lower than that in control group (8.33% vs 25.00%, χ 2=4.800, P<0.05). 【Conclusion】 Dex in elderly patients undergoing radical gastrectomy under general anesthesia can reduce the cognitive impairment and inflammatory stress reaction caused by surgery, and reduce the incidence of adverse reactions.
