Correlation of Serum 25(OH)D3 Level with Acute Asthma Severity and Related Indicators |

Abstract 【Objective】To explore the relationship of serum 25(OH)D3 level with disease severity and related indexes in patients acute asthma. 【Methods】A total of 72 patients with acute asthma diagnosed and treated in the Department of Respiratory Medicine in our hospital from March 2016 to February 2018 were enrolled as the observation group. According to the severity of asthma, patients in the observation group were further divided into three sub-groups, including 18 cases in the mild group, 28 cases in the moderate group, and 26 cases in the severe group. At the same time, 53 healthy volunteers in our physical examination center were selected as the control group. Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D3(25(OH)D3) levels, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (Hs-CRP) levels, serum calcium, serum inorganic phosphorus, and serum alkaline phosphatase were measured. Pulmonary function tester was used to measure the forced expiratory volume in one second of asthma patients as a percentage of the predicted value (FEV1%). The correlation of serum 25(OH)D3 level with disease severity and related indexes in acute asthma patients was explored. 【Results】The 25(OH)D3 level in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.05), and the Hs-CRP level in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). The levels of both FEV1% and 25(OH)D3 in the mild group, moderate group and severe group decreased in turn (P<0.05), while the Hs-CRP levels in the mild group, moderate group and severe group increased in sequence(P<0.05). The differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Pearson correlation analysis showed that 25(OH)D3 in the observation group was positively correlated with FEV1% (r=0.755, P<0.05) and negatively correlated with Hs-CRP (r=-0.804, P<0.05). 【Conclusion】The serum 25(OH)D3 level in patients with acute asthma is inversely proportional to the severity of the disease, namely the more severe the condition, the lower the 25(OH)D3 level. At the same time, it is positively correlated with FEV1% value and negatively correlated with serum hs-CRP. The lower the serum 25(OH)D3 level, the worse the lung function in patients with acute asthma and the more likely to induce inflammation.
