Abstract:【Objective】 To investigate the expression of E-cadherin and transcription factor Snail in prostate cancer and its clinical significance. 【Methods】 From January 2005 to December 2006, 54 cases of prostate cancer (prostate cancer group) were collected, and 48 cases of benign prostatic hyperplasias (benign prostatic hyperplasia group) were also collected. Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of E-cadherin and Snail protein. The relationship between biochemical recurrence time and expression of E-cadherin and Snail protein in prostate cancer patients was analyzed by Kaplan-Meier method. 【Results】 The positive expression rate of E-cadherin in prostate cancer group (37.04%,20/54) was significantly lower than that in benign prostatic hyperplasia group (83.33%,40/48,P<0.05), while the positive expression rate of Snail in prostate cancer group (62.96%,34/54) was significantly higher than that in benign prostatic hyperplasia group (22.92%,11/48) (P<0.05). The expression of E-cadherin and Snail in prostate cancer tissues was associated with TNM stage, histological differentiation, lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis (P<0.05). The expression of E-cadherin in prostate cancer tissues was negatively correlated with Snail expression (rs=-0.762,P<0.05). Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that biochemical recurrence-free survival in the E-cadherin positive group was significantly higher than that in the E-cadherin negative group (P<0.05), and biochemical recurrence-free survival in the Snail negative group was significantly higher than that in the Snail positive group (P<0.05). 【Conclusion】 The expression of E-cadherin protein is low, while the expression of Snail protein is high in prostate cancer tissues. The expression levels of E-cadherin and Snail are related to occurrence, development and prognosis of prostate cancer.
