Application Effect of Continuous Nursing Based on the Uses and Gratifications Theory in Patients with Chronic Rhinosinusitis after Endoscopic Sinus Surgery and its Impact on Patients' Quality of Life

Abstract：【Objective】To explore the application effect of continuous nursing based on the Uses and Gratifications Theory in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) after endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) and its impact on patients' quality of life. 【Methods】A total of 84 CRS patients who underwent ESS in our hospital from May 2020 to February 2023 were selected. According to the random number table method, the postoperative patients were divided into the control group (receiving routine postoperative nursing) and the observation group (implementing continuous nursing based on the Uses and Gratifications Theory on the basis of the control group), with 42 cases in each group. The recovery of nasal sinus mucosa (Lund-Kennedy score), Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) score, quality of life [Sino-Nasal Outcome Test-20 (SNOT-20) score] and total incidence of complications were compared between the two groups. 【Results】After intervention, the scores of polyps, edema, rhinorrhea, scar and crusting in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). After intervention, the scores of each dimension of CD-RISC in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05), and the scores of each dimension of SNOT-20 were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). The total incidence of complications in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). 【Conclusion】The continuous nursing program based on the Uses and Gratifications Theory can significantly alleviate nasal symptoms, improve quality of life and reduce the total incidence of postoperative complications in CRS patients after ESS, which is worthy of clinical promotion and application.
