| Effects of Acupoint Injection Combined with Infrared Irradiation on SF-MPQ Score and Serum Substance P, IL-1β Levels in Patients with Intractable Postherpetic Neuralgia |

Abstract 【Objective】 To explore the effects of acupoint injection combined with infrared irradiation on the Short-Form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ) score and serum levels of substance P and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) in patients with intractable postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). 【Methods】 A total of 90 patients with intractable PHN admitted to our hospital from October 2022 to December 2024 were selected and divided into the observation group and the control group by random number table method, with 45 cases in each group. The observation group was treated with acupoint injection combined with infrared irradiation, while the control group received conventional infrared irradiation alone. Both groups were treated continuously for 4 weeks. Before and after treatment, the two groups were compared in pain degree [Pain Rating Index (PRI), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Present Pain Intensity (PPI) in SF-MPQ], negative emotions [Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7)], quality of life [Generic Quality of Life Inventory-74 (GQOL-74)], as well as serum levels of substance P and IL-1β. 【Results】 After treatment, the scores of PRI, VAS, PPI, PHQ-9 and GAD-7 in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05); serum substance P and IL-1β levels were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05); while the GQOL-74 score was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). 【Conclusion】 Acupoint injection combined with infrared irradiation has a remarkable curative effect on intractable PHN. It can effectively relieve pain and negative emotions, and improve patients' quality of life, which is worthy of clinical promotion and application.
