Effect of Functional Carbohydrates on Liver Function, Insulin Resistance and Quality of Life in Patients with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease |

Abstract 【Objective】To explore the effect of functional carbohydrates (FCs) on liver function, insulin resistance and quality of life in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). 【Methods】A total of 128 NAFLD patients admitted to our hospital from June 2022 to June 2023 were selected and divided into the observation group (n=66) and the control group (n=62) by random number table method. The control group was treated with conventional NAFLD treatment regimen, and the observation group was given FCs dietary intervention on the basis of the control group. Both groups were intervened for 6 months. The changes of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), blood lipid levels, quality of life and liver function indexes were compared between the two groups. 【Results】After intervention, HOMA-IR, fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) in both groups were lower than those before intervention, and the observation group was lower than the control group, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). After intervention, triglyceride (TG) and total cholesterol (TC) levels in both groups were lower than those before intervention, and the observation group was lower than the control group, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). After intervention, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) in the observation group were lower than those before intervention, and GGT in the control group was lower than that before intervention (P<0.05); AST, ALT and GGT in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). After intervention, the scores of physical function, general health and physical function in the observation group were higher than those before intervention and higher than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). After intervention, there was no significant difference in liver stiffness measurement (LSM) and controlled attenuation parameter (CAP) between the control group and those before intervention (P>0.05); LSM and CAP in the observation group were lower than those before intervention and lower than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). 【Conclusion】FCs can effectively improve insulin resistance and liver function in NAFLD patients, improve the quality of life of patients, and help alleviate the accumulation of liver fat, which is worthy of clinical reference.
