Clinical Effect of Unilateral Biportal Endoscopic Discectomy Nucleus for Pulposus Extraction on Patients with Lumbar Disc Herniation |

Abstract 【Objective】To investigate the clinical efficacy of unilateral biportal endoscopic discectomy (UBED) in the treatment of Lumbar disc herniation (LDH). 【Methods】A total of 120 patients diagnosed and treated in our hospital from March 2023 to March 2024 were divided into UBED group and traditional fenestration discectomy (FD) group according to different treatment methods, with 60 cases in each group. Surgery related indexes, postoperative complications, dysfunction index (ODI) scores and visual analogue scale (VAS) and Japanese Orthopaedic Association scores (JOA) scores before and after treatment were compared between the two groups.【Results】The operation time of the UBED group was significantly longer than that of the FD group, and the hospital stay was significantly shorter than the FD group (P<0.05). After 1 month of treatment, ODI and VAS scores in the UBED group were significantly lower than those in the FD group (P<0.05), JOA scores were significantly higher than those in the FD group (P<0.05). The total incidence of postoperative complications in the UBED group was significantly lower than that in the FD group (P<0.05).【Conclusion】UBED can significantly shorten the length of hospital stay in LDH patients, improve dysfunction, relieve pain, reduce the incidence of postoperative complications, and improve lumbar function, but the operation time is relatively long.
