Abstract  【Objective】To investigate the effects of self-management health education scheme based on schema theory in disease cognition and health promotion behavior of stroke patients.【Methods】Using convenience sampling method, we collected 80 stroke patients from March 2019 to January 2020 who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria and were hospitalized in the neurology department. Among them, 40 patients admitted from March to June 2019 were in the control group who received routine neurology care. While 40 patients admitted from July 2019 to January 2020 were included in the intervention group, who were given self-management health education scheme based on the control group. The cognitive status of disease knowledge and health promotion behavior of patients were evaluated by the Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile Ⅱ (HPLPⅡ) before intervention during hospitalization and after intervention ( reexamination after 1 month of discharge).【Results】Before intervention, there were no statistically significant differences in stroke knowledge level and health promotion behavior between the two groups (P>0.05). After intervention, the stroke knowledge level and health promotion behavior score of patients in the intervention group were significantly higher than those in the control group. The difference was statistical significance (P<0.05).【Conclusion】The implementation of self-management health education scheme based on schema theory is beneficial to improve the cognitive level of disease-related knowledge in stroke patients, promote patients to adopt a healthy lifestyle and improve the level of self-management of patients, thereby improving the prognosis of disease and reducing the recurrence of stroke.
