| Effect of Xingnao Kaiqiao Acupuncture Combined with Tongluo Jiejing Decoction on Motor Function and Muscle Tone in Patients with Stroke |

Abstract 【Objective】 To investigate the effect of Xingnao Kaiqiao acupuncture combined with Tongluo Jiejing decoction on motor function and muscle tone in patients with stroke. 【Methods】 Ninety-six stroke patients were randomly assigned into an observation group and a control group, with 48 cases in each. Patients in the control group received conventional rehabilitation exercises, while those in the observation group received Xingnao Kaiqiao acupuncture and Tongluo Jiejing decoction in addition to conventional rehabilitation. Neurological function [National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)], motor function [upper extremity Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA)], balance status [Berg Balance Scale (BBS)], muscle tone [Composite Spasticity Index (CSI) and Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS)], traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome scores, and 6 minute walk speed and distance were compared between the two groups before treatment and at 1 and 4 weeks after treatment. 【Results】 After treatment, the observation group showed significantly lower NIHSS, CSI, MAS scores, and TCM syndrome scores compared to the control group, whereas BBS and FMA scores, as well as 6 minute walking speed and distance, were significantly improved (P<0.05 for all). 【Conclusion】 The combination therapy of Xingnao Kaiqiao acupuncture and Tongluo Jiejing decoction effectively alleviates spasticity and improves clinical outcomes in stroke patients.
