| Effect of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation Combined with Cognitive Training on Motor Function and Cognitive Function in Patients with Traumatic Brain Injury |

Abstract 【Objective】To explore the effect of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) combined with cognitive training on motor function and cognitive function in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). 【Methods】The clinical data of 120 TBI patients admitted to our hospital from August 2023 to April 2025 were analyzed retrospectively. According to the rehabilitation treatment methods, the patients were divided into an observation group (treated with tDCS combined with cognitive training) and a control group (treated with tDCS alone), with 60 cases in each group. Motor function [Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA) score, Berg Balance Scale (BBS) score], cognitive function [Loewenstein Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment (LOTCA) score, Rivermead Behavioral Memory Test (RBMT) score], activities of daily living [Barthel Index (BI) score], and levels of neurofunctional markers [brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), S100β, neuropeptide Y (NPY)] were compared between the two groups. 【Results】After treatment, the FMA-upper limb score, FMA-lower limb score, and BBS score in both groups were higher than those before treatment, and the observation group had higher scores than the control group, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). After treatment, the LOTCA, RBMT, and BI scores in both groups were higher than those before treatment, and the observation group had higher scores than the control group, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). After treatment, the serum BDNF level in both groups was higher than that before treatment, while the serum S100β and NPY levels were lower than those before treatment; the observation group had a higher serum BDNF level and lower serum S100β and NPY levels than the control group, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). 【Conclusion】tDCS combined with cognitive training can significantly improve the motor function, cognitive function, and activities of daily living of TBI patients, and plays a positive role in TBI rehabilitation.
