Value of Amplitude Integrated Electroencephalogram in Evaluating the Prognosis of Neonatal Asphyxia in Tibet |

Abstract 【Objective】 To explore the prognostic value of amplitude integrated electroencephalogram (aEEG) in neonatal asphyxia in Tibet.【Methods】 From September 2018 to October 2019, 75 Tibetan term asphyxiated newborns admitted to NICU were selected as the observation group, and 40 non asphyxiated Tibetan term newborns were selected as the control group. It was recorded by Nicolet monitor. The continuous EEG, SWC maturity and aEEG abnormality were compared between the two groups. The growth and development of the children with abnormal aEEG and normal aEEG were observed after 6 months follow-up.【Results】 There were 37 cases (49.33%) of continuous EEG in the observation group and 39 cases (97.50%) in the control group. The proportion of continuous EEG in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, the difference was statistically significant (χ2= 27.004, P<0.05).The proportion of SWC maturity in the observation group was 60.00% (45/75), which was lower than 95.00% (38/40) in the control group. The difference was statistically significant (χ2= 15.912, P<0.05). The abnormal rate of aEEG in the observation group was 57.33% (43/75), which was higher than 12.50% (5/40) in the control group. The difference was statistically significant (χ2= 21.563, P<0.05). There was a significant difference in the rate of abnormal growth and development between aEEG and normal children (χ2= 4.756, P<0.05). 【Conclusion】 aEEG has an important evaluation value for the prognosis of neonatal asphyxia in Tibet. It can be used to evaluate the brain injury of the children in the early stage. According to the evaluation results, the clinicians can give active and effective treatment, which is of great significance for improving the prognosis of the children.
