Abstract:【Objective】To explore the effects of laparoscopic hernia repair and tension-free hernia repair on postoperative pain and recurrence rate in patients with inguinal hernia. 【Methods】Sixty patients with inguinal hernia admitted to our hospital from January 2023 to January 2024 were selected and divided into the laparoscopic group (treated with laparoscopic hernia repair) and the tension-free group (treated with tension-free hernia repair) according to different surgical methods. The surgical time, bleeding volume, time to get out of bed, and length of hospital stay, the postoperative pain levels [Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score], and inflammatory factors [C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6)], as well as the incidence of surgical complications and follow-up recurrence rates were compared between the two groups. 【Results】The laparoscopic group had significantly shorter surgical time, bed time, and hospital stay than the tension-free group, and the amount of bleeding was significantly lower than that of the tension-free group, with statistical significance (P<0.05). From 2 hours to 1 week after surgery, both groups showed a decreasing trend in VAS scores (P<0.05). The VAS scores of the laparoscopic group were significantly lower than those of the tension-free group at 6 and 24 hours after surgery (P<0.05). At 24 hours after surgery, the average levels of serum CRP and IL-6 in both groups were higher than those before surgery, however, serum CRP and IL-6 levels of the laparoscopic group were significantly lower than those of the tension-free group, with statistical significance (P<0.05). The incidence of postoperative complications in the laparoscopic group was 10.00% (3/30), which was significantly lower than that in the tension-free group [33.33% (10/30)], and the difference was statistically significant (χ2=4.812, P=0.028). There was no recurrence during the follow-up period in the laparoscopic group, while the recurrence rate during the follow-up period in the tension-free group was 6.67% (2/30). There was no statistically significant difference in recurrence rate between the two groups during follow-up (χ2=0.517, P=0.472). 【Conclusion】Compared to tension-free hernia repair, laparoscopic hernia repair has better clinical efficacy in treating inguinal hernia, which accelerates patient recovery process, effectively reduces pain and inflammatory reactions, decreases surgical related complications, and has a lower postoperative recurrence rate.
