Correlation Analysis between Serum MMP-3,HMGB-1 Levels and Severity of Chronic Periodontitis in 128 Patients with Pg Infection |

Abstract 【Objective】 To investigate the correlation between serum levels of matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3),high mobility group protein-1 (HMGB-1) and severity of chronic periodontitis in 128 patients with Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg) infection. 【Methods】 A total of 128 patients with chronic periodontitis and Pg infection admitted to Xi'an Ninth Hospital from July 2019 to June 2021 were selected as the observation group,and 110 healthy volunteers who underwent physical examinations at Xi'an Ninth Hospital were selected as the control group. The clinical data and serum levels of MMP-3 and HMGB-1 were compared between the two groups of study subjects; 128 cases of chronic periodontitis were divided into mild,moderate,and severe groups based on the severity of Pg infection. The correlation between serum levels of MMP-3 and HMGB-1 and the severity of Pg infection in patients with chronic periodontitis was analyzed. 【Results】 The serum levels of MMP-3 and HMGB-1 in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05); The levels of serum MMP-3 and HMGB-1 in the mild,moderate,and severe groups of patients increased sequentially,and there was a statistically significant difference between the groups (P<0.05). The periodontal pocket depth (PD),gingival sulcus bleeding index (BSI),simplified scale index (DI-S),procalcitonin (PCT),C-reactive protein (CRP),serum MMP-3 and HMGB-1 levels in severe group were higher than those in mild and moderate group (P<0.05). The results of logistic multivariate analysis showed that PD,PCT,MMP-3,and HMGB-1 were all influencing factors for the severity of chronic periodontitis Pg infection in patients (OR=3.059,2.732,3.404,3.010,P<0.05). 【Conclusion】 The serum levels of MMP-3 and HMGB-1 in patients with chronic periodontitis Pg infection are abnormally elevated,and there is a certain correlation between them and the severity of the condition in patients with chronic periodontitis Pg infection.
