Expression and Significance of Serum IL-4, TNF-α, IL-27 and IFN-γ Levels in Children with Upper Airway Cough Syndrome |

Abstract 【Objective】 To investigate the changes and clinical significance of serum IL-4 ,TNF-α,IL-27 and IFN-γ levels in children with upper airway cough syndrome (UACS) before and after treatment. 【Methods】 The levels of IL-4 ,TNF-α,IL-27 and IFN-γ in serum of 15 healthy children volunteer (the control group) and 30 children with UACS (the observation group) before and after treatment were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and compared between both groups. 【Results】 The levels of IL-4 and TNF-α in serum of 30 children with UACS before treatment were higher than those of the control group, and the levels of IL-27 and IFN-γ were lower than those of the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of IL-4 and TNF-α in serum of 30 children with UACS were lower than before treatment, while the levels of IL-27 and IFN-γ were higher than before treatment. The differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). There were no significant differences in the levels of the above cytokines between the two groups of children after treatment (P>0.05).【Conclusion】 The expression levels of IL-4 and TNF-α in the serum of children with UACS increase, while the expression levels of IL-27 and IFN-γ decrease. IL-4, TNF-α, IL-27 and IFN-γ may play a role in immunomodulation in the pathogenesis of UACS in children. IL-4, TNF-α, IL-27 and IFN-γ can be used as evaluation indexes for clinical diagnosis and prognosis of UACS in children, which is worthy of clinical application.
