Effect of Ultrasound-guided Microwave Ablation on Thyroid Hormone, Stress Response and Cosmetic Effect in Patients with Benign Thyroid Nodules |

Abstract 【Objective】To investigate the effect of ultrasound-guided microwave ablation on thyroid hormone, stress response and cosmetic effect in patients with benign thyroid nodules.【Methods】 The clinical data of 82 patients with benign thyroid nodules treated in our hospital from January 2017 to January 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. 33 patients receiving routine surgical treatment were divided into control group and 49 patients receiving ultrasound-guided microwave ablation were divided into observation group. The success rate of nodule treatment, nodule shrinkage, thyroid hormone level, inflammatory factor level, cosmetic effect and complications were compared between the two groups.【Results】One year follow-up showed that the treatment success rate of the control group was 95.7% (113 / 118) lower than that of the observation group 99.1% (114 / 115), the difference was not statistically significant (χ2=2.633, P>0.05). The cosmetic satisfaction rate of the observation group was 95.92% (47 / 49) which was significantly higher than that of the control group 75.76% (25/33). The difference was statistically significant (χ2=4.361, P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of free triiodothyronine (FT3) and free thyroxine (FT4) in the two groups were lower than those before treatment, and the levels of thyrotropin (TSH) were higher than those before treatment, and the differences between the two groups were statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the level of serum TNF-α in the observation group was higher than that before treatment, the level of serum C-reactive protein (CRP), TNF-α and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the control group was higher than that before treatment, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the incidence of complications in the observation group was 10.20% (5 / 49), which was significantly lower than that in the control group 30.30%(10 / 33), the difference was statistically significant (χ2=5.423, P<0.05).【Conclusion】The effect of ultrasound-guided microwave ablation on benign thyroid nodule is similar to that of conventional operation, and it has little effect on thyroid function, little stress response to body and good cosmetic effect.
