Abstract 【Objective】To investigate the effect of colchicine on early recurrence and inflammatory factors after catheter ablation of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF).【Methods】A total of 80 patients with paroxysmal AF who had received catheter ablation were randomly divided into treatment group (n=40, colchicine group) and control group (n=40, placebo group).Three month after the ablation treatment, the early recurrence rate of paroxysmal AF were determined.Changes of the serum high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and interleukin-6(IL-6 )levels were observed before and after the ablation treatment. 【Results】After ablation, the recurrence rate of the observation group was lower than that of the control group (P<0.05). The levels of hs-CRP and IL-6 in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05), and compared with preoperative, postoperative hs-CRP and IL-6 levels were decreased in the observation group (P<0.05), the level of hs-CRP and IL-6 in the control group was higher than that before operation (P<0.05). The treatment group was further divided into recurrent group and non recurrent group, the postoperative recurrence rate of hs-CRP and IL-6 in the non recurrence group was greater than that in the recurrence group (P<0.05).【Conclusion】 Colchicine can prevent early recurrence of paroxysmal AF after catheter ablation treatment. This effect seems to be associated with a significant decrease in inflammatory reaction.
