Abstract Objective] To explore the effect of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) on phrenic nerve discharge and respiratory movement in rat .[Methods]Totally 60 Wistar rats were randomly divided into two groups with 30 in each group .In experimental group ,COPD model was established by incense combined with porcine trypsin endotracheal instillation .In control group ,incense was not given ,but normal saline 20u/100g was instilled in trachea on d15 .The duration ,amplitude and interval of rats in each group were recorded and compared .[Results]Compared with control group ,the amplitude of phrenic nerve discharge in experimen‐tal group was increased ,and there was significant difference( P <0 .05) .There was no significant difference in the duration ,interval and area of phrenic nerve discharge between two groups ( P > 0 .05) .Inspiratory phase time was positively correlated with phrenic nerve discharge activity in two groups .[Conclusion] COPD can influence of phrenic nerve discharge and respiratory movement ,enhance phrenic nerve discharge activity in rat and has the phenomenon such as the increasing of inspiration driving in respiratory center ,which indicates that the activity of respiratory center in rat may be changed .
