Abstract [Objective]To explore the effect of personality characteristics and response style on comfort and well-being of the relatives of patients with schizophrenia in order to provide the evidence for effective inter-vention.[Methods]Totally 350 relatives of patients with schizophrenia were investigated by using response style questionnaire,Eysenck personality questionnaire(simplified Chinese edition)and comfort and well-being scale.[Results]Comfort and well-being(r=-0.279,P<0.01)had significantly negative correlation with psychoticism of personality characteristics(r=-0.267,P<0.01),and extraversion had significantly posi-tive correlation comfort and well-being(r=0.199,P<0.01).Rumination of response style had significantly positive correlation with psychoticism(r=0.242,P<0.01)and neuroticism(r=-0.358,P<0.01),but significantly negative correlation with comfort and well-being(r=-0.409,P<0.01).Detraction had nega-tive correlation with psychoticism(r=0.197,P<0.01)and neuroticism(r=0.163,P<0.05),but signifi-cantly positive correlation with extraversion(r=0.258,P<0.01).Detraction had significantly positive cor-relation with comfort and well-being(r=-0.213,P<0.01).Rumination and detraction of response style di-rectly affected comfort and well-being(pathway coefficients were -0.475 and 0.371).Psychoticism,neuroti-cism and extroversion of personality characteristics not only had direct influence(pathway coefficients were -0.147,-0.169 and 0.211),but also had indirect influence(pathway coefficients were -0.115,-0.153 and 0.107)through affecting response style.[Conclusion]Comfort and well-being of the relatives of patients with schizophrenia is influenced by personality characteristics and response style.Response style plays an important role in regulating the effect mode of personality characteristics on comfort and well-being.
