Abstract [Objective]To explore clinical efficacy of pedicle screw in the treatment of atlantoaxial fracture .[Methods] Clinical data of 26 patients with atlantoaxial fracture undergoing posterior pedicle screw fixation form Aug .2008 to Nov .2012 were analyzed retrospectively .Among them ,8 patients were odontoid fracture , and 13 patients were atlas fracture ,and 5 patients were atlantoaxial complex fracture .All patients complained of neck pain ,limitation of activity ,limb numbness and weakness .Preoperative JOA scores ranged from 5 to 12 points(mean 8 .5 points)[Results]A total of 52 atlas pedicle screws and 52 axis pedicle screws were insert-ed .All patients were followed up for an average of 18 months .Postoperative JOA scores were 12~16 points (mean 14 .5 points) .During the follow up ,all pedicle screws were verified to be fixed in a proper position , and cervical vertebra arrangement was normal .In the last follow up ,all patients had bone union and nearly normal motion of neck .[Conclusion] Atlantoaxial pedicle screw fixation for the treatment of atlantoaxial frac-ture has certain efficacy and can maintain most of motor function .
