Abstract [Objective] To explore the expression of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α(HIF-1α) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)in laryngeal carcinoma and its clinical significance .[Methods] Immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of HIF-1αand VEGF in 62 cases of laryngeal carcinoma tissue and 46 cases of adjacent non-cancerous tissue .Clinicopathological parameters were also analyzed .[Results]The expression rates of HIF-1αand VEGF in laryngeal carcinoma tissue were 67 .74% and 62 .90% respectively ,which were higher than those in adjacent noncan-cerous tissue( P<0 .05) ,and there was a positive correlation between them ( P<0 .05) .The expression of HIF-1αwas associated with T stage and clinical stage ,and the expression of VEGF was associated with clinical stage and lymph node metastases( P<0 .05) .Survival analysis showed that there were significant differences in disease-free survival and overall survival between patients with positive expression of HIF-1αor VEGF and patients with negative expression ( P<0 .05) .[Conclusion] The expression of HIF-1αand VEGF may play an important role in the occurrence and development of la-ryngeal carcinoma ,and they have synergetic effect .HIF-1αmay promote tumor angiogenesis which leads to tumor inva-sion and lymph node metastasis by up-regulating VEGF expression .Both HIF-1αand VEGF can be used as important in-dicators to assess the biological behavior and prognosis of laryngeal carcinoma .
