Abstract [Objective] To explore the value of plasma homocysteine (Hcy) in the diagnosis of coronary heart dis-ease in patients with essential hypertension (ES) .[Methods] A total of 173 patients diagnosed as ES in our hospital from May 2011 to April 2013 underwent coronary angiography examination .According to coronary angiography ex-amination results ,all patients were divided into hypertension group (group A ,n =76) and hypertension combined with coronary heart disease group (group B ,n=97) .The levels of Hcy in two groups were measured and compared . When plasma Hcy (15μmol/L ) was taken as the cut-off value ,the probability of coronary heart disease in patients with different level of Hcy was compared .[Results]The level of Hcy in group B was 21 .1 ± 7 .9?mol/L ,which was obviously higher than that in group A (14 .0 ± 4 .5μmol/L) ,and there was significant difference between two groups ( P <0 .05) .When plasma Hcy(15μmol/L) was taken as the cut-off value ,the probability of coronary heart disease in patients with normal Hcy was 35 .1% ,which was obviously lower than that in high Hcy group (67 .7% ) ,and there was significant difference between two groups ( P<0 .05) .[Conclusion]Hcy level is valuable for predicting the probability of ES developing to coronary heart disease .
