Abstract [Objective]To explore the relationship of carotid intima-media thickness (IM T ) with serum inter-leukin-6(IL-6) and high-sensitive C-reactive protein(hs-CRP) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) .[Methods]Totally 201 patients with newly diagnosed T2DM were selected .According to carotid IMT ,all patients were divided into IMT increased group(IMT>0 .9mm ,n=99) and normal IMT group(IMT<0 .9mm ,n=102) . Fast blood samples were collected .Serum levels of IL-6 and hs-CRP were measured .Carotid IMT of the subjects in each group was detected by using color Doppler apparatus .[Results] Among T2DM subjects ,the levels of IL-6 and hs-CRP in IMT increased group were significantly higher than those in normal IMT group ( P < 0 .01) .In IMT increased group ,IL-6 and hs-CRP were positively correlated with IMT (r was 0 .73 and 0 .78 respectively ,P<0 .01) .In normal IM T group ,IL-6 and hs-CRP were also positively correlated with IM T (r was 0 .62 and 0 .59 respectively ,P <0 .01) .If T2DM patients were considered as the whole ,IL-6 was also related with hs-CRP(r was 0 .66 ,P <0 .01) .[Conclusion] IL-6 and hs-CRP are closely related with early atherosclerosis of T 2DM pa-tients .
