Abstract [Objective] To explore the correlation of carotid atherosclerosis with pulse pressure (PP) and pulse pressure in-dex(PPI) in patients with hypertension .[Methods] Totally 162 patients with hypertension were selected .Color Doppler ul-trasound was used to measure carotid intima-media thickness(IMT) in all patients .According to IMT ,all patients were divid-ed into carotid atherosclerosis group(n=114) and carotid normal group(n=48) .The dynamic blood pressure was monitored . PP and PPI were calculated and compared with the results of color Doppler ultrasound .[Results] Systolic blood pressure (SBP) ,mean arterial blood pressure (MBP) ,PP and PPI in carotid atherosclerosis group were markedly higher than those in normalcarotidgroup,andtherewassignificantdifference(P<0.05).IMTinpatientswithPP>60mmHgwas1.37±0.43 cm ,which was markedly higher than that in patients with PP <60mmHg(0 .83 ± 0 .12cm) ,and there was significant differ-ence( P<0 .05) .PP and PPI showed a positive correlation (normal carotid group:r=0 .902 ,P=0 .001;carotid atheroscle-rosis group :r=0 .894 ,P=0 .002) .[Conclusion]Carotid atherosclerosis is closely related with PP and PPI .The combination detection is important to prevent hypertension with carotid atherosclerosis .
