Abstract:【Objective】To investigate the relationship between serum cystatin C(Cys C) level and cognitive impairment in elderly patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. 【Methods】A total of 100 elderly patients with type 2 diabetes were selected and divided into the high Cys C group and low Cys C group according to their levels of cystatin C. The differences of clinical characteristics and the scale of elderly cognitive function (SECF) scores between the two groups were compared. Logistic regression was used to analyze the correlation between the level of Cys C and cognitive dysfunction. 【Results】There were statistically significant differences between the two groups in the total score of SECF and its subdivisions: orientation, width, animal name, calculation, classification, copying, speech and memorization (P<0.05). Comparing the ratio of abnormal case numbers in each item, the differences in total score, orientation, memorization, animal name, calculation, copying and speech were statistically significantly different (P<0.05). Univariate logistic regression analysis showed that the OR value of cognitive dysfunction in high Cys C group was 2.538 compared with that in low Cys C group. However, multivariate logistic regression analysis showed age, male, uric acid were independent risk factors for cognitive impairment; Cys C did not enter the equation. 【Conclusion】 The level of serum Cys C may be associated with cognitive dysfunction in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes, but is not independently related.
