Abstract：【Objective】To investigate the effects of empathetic nursing in AIDS patients undergoing antiviral therapy.【Methods】A total of 84 AIDS patients who received antiviral therapy in our hospital from June 2014 to May 2016 were selected as study subjects. They were divided into the observation group and control group using a random number table, with 42 cases in each group. Patients in the control group were given routine nursing interventions including health education, psychological intervention and medication supervision. Patients in the observation group received empathetic nursing intervention on the basis of the routine nursing intervention outlined above. During a follow-up after 12 months, the degree of anxiety and depression, treatment compliance, treatment effect and other indicators of the two groups were compared.【Results】The scores on the self-rated anxiety scale (SAS) and self-rated depression scale (SDS) in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). The treatment compliance rate in the observation group was 95.24%, which was significantly higher than that of 80.95% in the control group (χ2=4.086, P<0.05). The CD4+T lymphocyte count was significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group, and the HIV viral load was significantly lower in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.05).【Conclusion】Empathetic nursing is not only conducive to anxiety-relief but also combats depression in AIDS patients undergoing antiviral therapy; it increases treatment compliance and, thereby, improves treatment outcomes.
