Abstract:【Objective】The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship among plasma hydrogen sulfide (H2S) level, blood lipid and body lipid distribution in healthy young men with normal glucose tolerance.【Methods】A total of 47 healthy volunteers with normal glucose tolerance were recruited. The following data were all collected from the subjects: height, body mass, weight, waist circumference (WC), blood pressure, visceral fat area (VFA), total body fat (TBF), total body fat content (TFM), muscles content, triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), fasting blood glucose (FPG), 2h postprandial blood glucose (2hPG) and H2S level. According to the median VFA (82.4 cm2), subjects were divided into two groups: the observation group (VFA≥82.4 cm2) and the control group (VFA<82.4 cm2). The above indexes were compared and analyzed between the two groups.【Results】The body mass index (BMI), WC, TBF, TFM, FPG and LDL-C in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05), while the level of H2S in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). The other indexes between the two groups did not show significant difference. Pearson correlation analysis showed that H2S level were negatively correlated with BMI、WC、VFA、TBF、TFM and LDL-C (P<0.05). Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that LDL-C and WC were the influencing factors of H2S level (P<0.05).【Conclusion】With the increase of visceral fat, H2S level drops and FPG and LDL-C increase in healthy young men with normal glucose tolerance. It indicates that the dropping of H2S level is closely correlated to the increase of LDL-C and visceral adipose.
