Abstract:【Objective】To explore the expression of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) and cysteine-rich 61 (Cyr 61) in gingival carcinoma and their clinical application.【Methods】A total of 58 patients with gingival carcinoma treated in our hospital from April 2012 to July 2016 were recruited for the study. Tumor tissues from all 58 cases were collected along with 11 cases of randomly picked adjacent normal gingival tissues among those 58 patients. The expression of MIF and Cyr61 was determined by immunohistochemical staining method, and the clinical data and pathological features of patients were summarized.【Results】The positive expression rate of MIF in gingival carcinoma tissues was found to be 70.7% (41/58), which was significantly higher than that in adjacent normal tissues 36.4%(4/11). The positive expression rate of Cyr61 in gingival carcinoma tissues was 89.7% (52/58), which was significantly higher than that in the adjacent normal tissues 54.5% (6/11). The positive expression of MIF and Cyr61 had no obvious correlation with the age and gender of patients, while they had a significant positive correlation with the differentiation degree of gingival carcinoma and lymph node metastasis. Both MIF and Cyr61 were positive in 37 cases (63.8%). There was a positive correlation between MIF and Cyr 61 (r=0.355, P<0.05).【Conclusion】The expression levels of MIF and Cyr61 are high in gingival carcinoma tissues and they are correlated with tumor differentiation and lymphatic metastasis. MIF and Cyr 61 are positively correlated with each other, which can be used as a reference index for clinical diagnosis and treatment of gingival carcinoma.
