Abstract:【Objective】 To investigate the effect of different storage duration of urine specimens on urinary sediment in routine urine test. 【Methods】The urinary sediment were collected and related indexes detected at 1h, 2h, 4h and 6h of storage. The changes in morphology of red blood cells were observed at different time points. 【Results】Under 4℃ room temperature , the red blood cell count, urinary cast count and macrocyte count after 4h and 6h of storage were significantly lower than those at immediate collection while lysed erythrocytes were increased (P<0.05). Under room temperature and 4℃, the white blood cell count after 6h of storage was significantly lower than that at immediate collection (P<0.05). The epithelial cell count and microcyte count showed no significant differences at different time points (P>0.05). 【Conclusion】The storage duration of urine specimens has great effect on the examination results of urinary sediment. It is suggested that the examination be completed within 4h after collection of specimens . The storage temperature has little effect on red blood cells, white blood cells and urinary cast count.
