Abstract:【Objective】To investigate the serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D [25 (OH) D] levels in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) and the relationship with clinical symptoms so as to provide clues and basis for the etiology and treatment of autism. 【Methods】Sixty cases of children with autism diagnosed in Hunan Children's Hospital from June 2014 to June 2016 were selected as the observation group , and other sixty healthy children for normal physical examination were selected as control group in the same period of time . Serum levels of 25 (OH) D of the two groups were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Childhood autism Rating Scale (CARS) was used to assess the severity of autism. The levels of 25 (OH) D and CARS score were compared between the two groups. The incidence of sleep disorders and gastrointestinal disorders and their relationship with the level of 25 (OH) D between the two groups were also compared. 【Results】The 25 (OH) D level in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group, but it was not significantly associated with the CARS score. The incidence of sleep disorders and gastrointestinal dysfunction in the observation group was significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.001), but the incidence of two of them was not significantly associated with levels of 25 (OH) D. 【Conclusion】The 25 (OH) D level of the observation group is significantly lower than that of the control, but there is no significant correlation with the severity of ASD, sleep disturbance and gastrointestinal dysfunction.
