Abstract:【Objective】To investigate the value of Serum Cystatin C (Cys C) level in the evaluation of cardiac and renal function impairment of patients with primary hypertension. 【Methods】 A total of 186 patients with primary hypertension from January 2011 to September 2014 were selected and divided into the complicated group with cardiac and renal function impairment (group A,n=63) and the non complicated group (group B,n=123),80 healthy adults who received healthy examination were selected as the control group over the same period of time. Gender, age, serum Cys C levels and other clinical indicators were compared among three groups. Simple linear correlation and multiple linear regression analysis were performed to investigate the relationship between serum Cys C levels and other clinical indicators in patients with primary hypertension. The area under receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to assess the diagnostic value of serum Cys C levels and other clinical indicators in patients with renal impairment. 【Results】 There were significant differences in systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), Cys C, triglyceride (TG), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), serum creatinine (Scr), glomerular filtration rate (GFR), micro urinary albumin (mALB), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), left ventricular mass index (LVMI) among three groups (P<0.05). Serum Cys C level was positively correlated with Scr, mALB, LVMI, and negatively correlated with GFR, LVEF (P<0.05). The area under ROC curve of Cys C, BUN, Scr, mALB were respectively 0.75, 0.673, 0.688, 0.620. 【Conclusion】 Serum Cys C levels were significantly increased in patients with primary hypertension complicated with cardiac and renal dysfunction. Thus, Serum Cys C level could be used as one of the indexes for evaluating cardiac and renal impairment.
