Abstract:Objective] To explore the correlation between metabolic syndrome and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in middle and old‐aged men .[Methods] Totally 151 middle and old‐aged men(≥50 years old) in physical exami‐nation center of our hospital from May 2008 to July 2013 were chosen .The general examinations included age ,height , weight ,blood pressure ,past history and IPSS score .The laboratory tests included fasting blood glucose ,blood lipids and PSA .The image test was transrectal ultrasound for measuring prostate volume .Urine flow rate(QMax) was measured . The incidence of BPH between metabolic syndrome and non‐metabolic syndrome was compared .The correlation of factors in metabolic syndrome with BPH was analyzed .[Results]According to examination results ,all cases were divided into metabolic syndrome group( n =37) and non‐metabolic syndrome group( n =114) .The incidence of BPH in metabolic syndrome group and non‐metabolic syndrome was 32 .4% (12/37) and 12 .3% (14/114) ,respectively .There was signifi‐cant difference in IPSS ,prostate volume and PSA between two groups( P<0 .05) .There was no significant difference in QMax between two groups( P=0 .071) .Obesity ,hyperlipidemia and diabetes mellitus were the risk factors of BPH(OR=1 .72 ,3 .31 ,2 .07 ,P=0 .042 ,0 .029 ,0 .046) .[Conclusion]The morbidity of BPH in patients with metabolic syn‐drome is higher .IPSS ,prostate volume and PSA are the main influential factors of BPH patients .Obesity ,hyperlipi‐demia and diabetes are the risk factors of BPH .
