Abstract：To explore clinical efficacy of carbamazepine vs .compound betamethasone for the treatment of primary trigeminal neuralgia(PTN) .[Methods]A total of 80 patients with PTN in our hospital ca-ses of patients with PTN from Jan .2013 to Jan .2014 were selected and divided into carbamazepine group (group A) and compound betamethasone group(group B) by random draw method .The treatment course was 4 weeks .The efficacy and safety were compared between two groups .[Results] The total effective rates in group B at 1 ,2 ,3 and 4 weeks after treatment were obviously higher than those in group A ,and there was significant difference between two groups( P <0 .05) .The VAS and QS scores in group B at 1 ,2 ,3 and 4 weeks after treatment were lower than those in group A ,and there was significant difference between two groups( P <0 .05) .The incidence rates of complications such as nausea ,drowsiness and skin rash in group B were obviously lower than those in group A ,and there was significant difference in the total incidence rate of adverse reaction between two groups ( P<0 .05) .[Conclusion]Compared with carbamazepine ,compound be-tamethasone can more significantly alleviate the pain degree of PTN patients and improve sleep quality ,and has more remarkable efficacy ,good tolerance ,low incidence of adverse reaction and high safety ,and may be used as the preferred drug for clinical treatment of PTN .
