Abstract：Objective To explore the expression and significance of matrix metalloproteinase-2(MMP2) mRNA in human gliomas .[Methods]The expression of MMP2 mRNA in 38 human glioma tissues and 7 nor-mal human brain tissues was detected by RT-PCR .[Results] The expression of MMP2 mRNA was not detec-ted in 7 normal human brain tissues .Among 38 cases of gliomas ,the expression of MMP2 mRNA in 10 pa-tients of 18 patients with low-grade malignant gliomas was detected ,and the positive rate was 55 .6% (10/18) . The expression of MMP2 mRNA in 17 patients of 20 patients with high-grade malignant gliomas was detected , and the positive rate was 85% (17/20) .The positive rate of MMP2 mRNA in high-grade malignant glioma (grade Ⅲ ~ Ⅳ) was markedly higher than that in low-grade malignant gliomas (grade I-Ⅱ ) ,and there was significant difference between two groups( P<0 .05) .[Conclusion The expression of MMP2 mRNA in malig-nant gliomas is high and positively related with the malignancy degree of gliomas .
